I used Lee Machine for my OS-LA conversions. YMMV.

Contact Bob directly through that email address and you can save a few bucks. He deals direct outside eBay and I have heard rumors that he may drop eBay all together and deal direct only since all the new goofy rules went into place.

I just bought a USED OS LA 15 on E bay from Bob for my Pathfinder Twin project along with the parts to convert it to control line; aluminum back plate, gasket, front venturi, valve assy. and socket head screw set. Dismantling it I discovered sludge inside the engine leaving me to believe the engine had been under water. It all cleaned up well except there was corrosion on the wrist pin. Bob said this wasn't good and sent me free of charge a replacement pin and rod. I requested to buy the parts, after all I bought a used item "buyer beware" but not with Bob Brooks. He takes credit card or PayPal Easy Peasy.
BTW the 15 runs great.

Save the pads from that wrist pin. They are one thing that wears out faster on the LA series.

One pad was damaged during the pushing out the corroded pin. I have taken a number of OS engines apart and have never seen a pad worn out or any scoring of the cylinder. In most cases the pin pushes out easily. There must have been some thought given to the overall length of the pin and pads since the pin must elongate with heat. I wonder what material is used for the pad to withstand the heat at that location?

I'm pretty sure it is teflon.

Yes, teflon. I guess I ment an engine that's been run. The back pad gets worn from the rod being pushed back. probably not so much in a stunt engine.

Next time I remove a C-rod when usually to boil up an engine I'll check for variation in pad thickness.

Brian,

Which one did you buy?  The one from Brooks or Tower? I'm curious the wait time on delivery from Tower. Brooks usually packages next day with three days shipping.

Dan,

What new eBay rules are concerning?  I'm about three months into offering a large collection at 40 engines per week, and eBay seems stable.

thanks,

Peter

All the new rules concerning anything over $600 in sales, wanting you social security information, and other personal information and more new fees. I have bought lots of stuff on eBay but never did any selling. I know several sellers that have bailed and more leaning that way. What was your eBay name so I can check out your stuff. I am pretty sure I have bought stuff from you also, but it has been a while.

Dan,

Yes, you had a Fox project that needed some parts I had.  Perhaps a twin?

Here's a current auction:  https://www.ebay.com/itm/325781927454 (https://www.ebay.com/itm/325781927454)

I too am converting an OS 15LA for control line. I purchased the venturi and needle valve on ebay. They fit perfectly. In regards to the tongue muffler, there is no provision on the one I bought. My tank is a "standard vent" Brodak metal 2 oz. Will this draw fuel ok or will I need to get pressure from somewhere?

If the venturi/spraybar is appropriate, it will NOT need pressure. BUT, I would suggest a "uniflow" tank to get an even run from launch to end. I do tend to like muffler pressure, but the reason is mostly that it stops getting tiny bugs and seeds into the uniflow intake.

If you can arrange a pressure tap on the muffler, run the hose to the uniflow intake. If you don't cap off the overflow tube on the tank, a uniflow tank runs like an old fashioned tank...richer at the start of the flight, going leaner later on. This is considered a good thing on a Fox .35 Stunt type of run, but not so much on a modern engine.  H^^ Steve
