Title: O.S. LA-46 - Backplate Orientation

As viewed from the rear of the engine, does the cutout go on the left or the top? 

So I cleaned my LA-46 in a crock pot.  Now, I do not know which was the backplate cutout should be oriented.  It is the black plastic backplate and does not have an NV mounted.
