Agreed that it would be less expensive, but what quality and availability issues are you referring to with respect to nitro and methanol? I know of no real restrictions on getting glow fuel right now.

This is admittedly second-hand, and so not authoritative, from a local Advanced flier I respect who said one of the top Nats fliers told him that the nitro and methanol we're getting now aren't as high quality as they used to be, and this was a factor in his decision to go electric. The supply has been temporarily shaky in the past (at least allegedly--there's always the rumor thang). The future supply of gasoline is arguably more secure than that of nitro and methanol. Then there are always the guvmint regulators and what they've already done to paint.
