PA 61/pipe run issues
« on: June 29, 2010, 09:49:40 PM »
Randy,

I've hit some problems with my PA 61/pipe set up on my Tempest (same set up I spoke with you about).  I went out this afternoon and couldn't get a needle setting.  First flight was a bit fast, opened the needle on the second and was slow and so on.  A couple of time when I tried to set the needle I opened it 1-1.5 turns with no change then it would start to sound like a sick Harley.  I tried several props, all 12 3-blade, pitched at 4, 4.2, 2.3.  I'm wondering if I may have toasted the pipe (there was a horrible smell coming from even after I got home, not sure how to describe it).

Thanks,

James

Hi James

It sounds like the NVA has been removed and installed improperl;y with the holes NOT lining up. OR the fuel feed has a blockage, or trash. It also sounds like you may have fried the pipe ...if the motor ran so lean to cook the pipe and make a very bad smell, It needs to be checked.
The only way to do that is for me to see the power train in person

Randy

Randy,

Thanks for the help.  I thoroughly cleaned the NV assembly and the run seems to be back.  See you at the Nats.
