When setting up a new pipe system and adjusting for length do you cut the manifold pipe or the tuned pipe neck? I have heard both so I need some clarification.

Always cut the pipe if your using a CARBON one, The weight differance between cf pipe material and the small amount of thin wall alum. tubing is not much, but it makes a big differance in the life of the pipe, if you cut the header real short , this will put the frontend of the pipe very close to the engine, results are sometimes short life.
Running a full lenght header takes a huge amount of heat off of the front end of the pipe. Mine have lasted for many years this way with zero problems

Hi Wayne
NO the engine is not affected unless you really burn up or "coke" up the front end of the pipe, I have seen a few that collapsed and that will overheat the motor, but that happens slowly and you should have plenty of warning time.
Plus it is very rare that it will happen, almost never if you use the alum. insert in the cf pipes. all in all it is a small thing. just run the header full Lent and there will be no problems
