Hey Randy:
I see on Enya's website they are coming out with new ring versions of the 61CX, in both side and rear exhaust models.
Will you be getting any of those ?
-
Allen, did you ever get to run those Enya 30 pipe motors? Hadn't heard anything so I thought that I'd ask..
-
Is there any chance that the ABC version of the 61 becoming available again? Rings seems a backward step. Just hope that Enya can source the super eutectic aluminium/silicon alloy!
Andrew.

No Gill, I have two other birds on the board that have to be finished before I start somethings for Enya 32s.

I would think if they were able to find another source they would not have gone through the effort of redesigning for the rings. Why do you consider that a step backward?

Hi Alan,
Ringed engines are a pain, they are always wearing out and losing compression, just when you need it. If I were a serious competion flyer, I would do anything, rather than have a ringed motor. OK, they are easy enough to take down and hone the bore and fit new rings. But they always seem to play up at the most inconvenient time (in my experience anyway).
I think it significant that none of the top stunt motors, like the Randy's PAs, RoJett etc are ringed. They have gone that way for reliability. I still love my Merco 61's and think they are great stunt motors, but that doesn't fool me about their reliability at the crucial time. They can be an absolute pain , suddenly the run characteristics will change and you just know you have ring problems. Look at what the top fliers use. They were quick enough to drop the ST46s and ST60s, when they had the chance to go to reliable, repeatable ABC motors (or derivatives of the same)!
Right, I am going to dig a very deep foxhole. I rekon that I am going to get a lot of flak over this!
Regards,
Andrew.

Hi Allan
I have all of the Enya CL motors here and I plan on stocking and selling the new ones also
On items I do not have in stock, I can order for people, I have regular orders coming in all the time

OK Fellas,
Think I must have got into RANT mode over the general topic of ringed motors. Let me say that "most" of my ringed motors have run well for "most" of the time. It just seems that everytime, I really want a good engine run, The rings seem to divine it and start to give trouble! Everything from a Brown Junior to an ST51, taking in various ringed McCoys, Mercos and HPs in between!!
I can get very paranoid over such things. I agree that I have had bad experiences, which have tinged my outlook on ringed motors. Right RANT definitely over. I shall go back to playing with my Mercos!
Regards,
Andrew.

Brother Andrew
Man oh man, that is cold. LOL. My ST 46's and ALL of my Saitos are ringed motors and let me tell you, they have showed me some serious love. When I see a top quality motor with a ring in it, I tend to see that as an uptown thing!!
That said, your own personal experiences cannot be ignored,(they matter) but, lets not confuse individual experiences with general tendencies.

I kinda like the idea of an Enya 61 rear exhaust engine. Hmmmm.....
Edit
And, what's the weight of the Enya .32 RE with venturi and NVA

Will you also be able to provide headers /mufflers for the new 61 Enyas ?

Then keep watching this Enya page :). Price but no photo yet.

The weight of the new engines are pretty good, about the same of a ST 60:
61CXLRS PRO Rear Exhaust: 339g
61CXRS PRO Side Exhaust: 341g

Like Andrew, I'd be a lot more enthused about an ABC/AAC or even ABN version of the Enya .61. The only ringed engine I've ever run is the ex-Dirt G.51, and I haven't had any trouble with the ring. Can't say if the ring is a factory item or a Frank Bowman ring, but I'm sure that the end gap was set properly. I have no Enya experience, but do have a NIB .45 #6001...and wondering if I should run it or change the ring first??? My expectations are that if the engine seems to need a lot of break-in, it's the ring that's not gapped right, and it would probably be best to just change it out for a Bowman ring? n~ Steve

This came up a few months ago, and I still think getting rid of rings was a huge step forward for stunt. As you say, a good ringed motor runs well most of the time. But then, something will go wrong, and you have a spate of issues. I can recall sitting at flying sites with my disassembled ST46, wishing someone made a slug-piston/iron liner assembly for it. And mine where noted at paragons of reliability. As no less than GMA once said, it was a cheap way of getting a piston fit, if you didn't have the equipment necessary to get a good slug-piston or ABC system.

Brett,
Seems you had wished for Enya 45 6001 w/ iron piston.
I am not sure about this but I think I read somewhere about the Japanese WC team using this Enya engine at that time.

Darn it! I knew that I should have ordered a 61 before they went to the ringed version. There are a couple of them out at
the field, and they seem to be exceptional engines.
However, if the ringed version is anywhere close in performance to the original it should be a good engine.

Like any ringed engine, I would think lack of lubrication or incorrect lubrication would be the cause of the rings going south.
A syn. blend instead of all castor might be the trick? i.e.- 4 stroke fuel. Not sure.
What are you guys running, fuel wise vs. ABC?

A 23 % total oil with 50 castor 50 synth will be a good fuel for the Enya 61 Ringed, This is the same fuel we have been using in ST 60s 51s and 46s for years

Hey Randy:
Have you checked the exhaust port on that new Enya 61 RE .
Was wondering if it might be the same as your PA engines..
Assuming it is different, will you be able to supply headers and header/mufflers for it ?

Wow, we could be looking at the bonafide successor to the venerable ST60!! I can't believe Enya could come back so strong like this. My Enya 15,(which I still own) was my first "adult motor" after my .049, as a child.

Hi Randy,
I had been out at the the Enya site this week. There have been many many changes over the week where now many of the engines are out of Stock.
There had been a page out there with larger photos and Specs on the engines. That is now gone. Some of the engines that were listed are altogether gone from the lists.
I am interested in the .15 (three flavors) and the .09 (two flavors)
Can you post this information here for all to see along with your prices and availability.
