New Control Line Engines / where can they be found?
« on: August 18, 2015, 11:20:59 PM »
I think I may have had the luck to purchase the last new OS LA-S .46.  Is there a company that anyone knows of that still stocks brand new control line engines?

Kaz Minato still has 13 in stock:

http://www.shop-online.jp/mnti/index.php?body=list&category_id=88348&PHPSESSID=f90882e4e82bee389963342f15fb5bb9

With the Yen to USD rate, I bought 2 this year from him for the same price, with shipping, you would by them in the US if you could find them.
Best Regards,
Bill

There's usually enough English on the page for me to figure it out but email Kaz with any questions at all. I use an online Yen-to-USD conversion to get pricing but Kaz will confirm prices and shipping. He's a great guy.

"Please send e-mail to Kaz Minato for ordering.

Mail :  mnt_net-shop@mbr.nifty.com

We take PayPal.

Also welcome bank transfer."

If you can muddle your way through it, you can do the same at RCJAPAN.com. They sell japaneese products strictly to overseas customers like us and, although initial pricing is in Yen, all conversations and follow on communications are in English.

Some great deals are to be had because the Yen-to-USD rate is the best it's been in decades. Say you want to replace a ST 51 with a better, more powerful engine. You can buy an Enya SS50 which drops right in to the ST mount holes, puts out more useable stunt power, and it costs $112 plus about $20 shipping.

Best Regards,
Bill

There was a post on here a few days ago about a where Stalker engines can be purchased in the USA. http://stunthanger.com/smf/index.php/topic,40313.0.html

Or this place is good, I got parts for one of my engines earlier this year. 11 days from Ukraine to NZ.
http://technohobby.com.ua/online-shop/en

Stalker engines cost more than an LA46 but they are worth every cent. I run a .51 in my Legacy 40 and it goes great. Loads of power and very consistent. I normally don't need to touch the needle valve at all.

As already mentioned, Enya still make a nice line up of engines. I've not run one so cannot comment on how they go.

On the one hand it would be nice if there was a good engine to recommend to newbies that didn't involve ordering from cottage industries or hitting vintage engines on eBay.

On the other hand, I suspect it'll be a while before eBay's supply of LA 46's is depleted, and you can always start by taking an RC engine and wiring the throttle open.

Interestingly enough, Tower Hobbies carries two SuperTiger CL engines -- a 36 ringed and a 51 ringed.  I have no idea how good they are for day to day use.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

Good News: They are still in the catalog, can be made to work stock but better if re-worked by Randy. Bad News: They have been on extra-terrestrial back order for quite a while with no change in sight.  ???
I did notice that the RCJAPAN site lists the RC versions of the Enya SS50 and 40 XZS. Both can be converted to C/L with parts that are available in E-Bay (shuttrman-the control line store) and possibly other vendors.  8)

Evo .36's are still available . While not top level competition motors they work pretty well . Great Hobbies has one in stock ($99.00) Canadian . They will fly anything a LA .46 will but the mounts are narrower .

Be careful when dealing with RCJapan, they do not have any C/L engines in stock and they do not have a clue of Enya production schedule.

Old Enya's never die, they just run stronger!

While a true statement, it has to be put into context.

RCJapan does not stock anything. The modern system of supply (plus the uncertain nature of the hobby business specifically) has the seller sending the order direct to the factory when something is ordered. That's why they can discount so heavily: the have no stock overhead, some of which may end up sitting for years.

Even Ken Enya cannot say for certain when certain lines of engines will be run, so how could a supplier?

Enya is the only Japanese company making control line-specific 2 stroke engines (that I know of). My order's in. When the engine's made and shipped, I get billed. Simple as that.

It's no different then dealing with Brodak. They have no 40s but I'm in line for 2. When they get made and shipped, I'll get billed.

If there's a better game in town, I'd like to know because I'm not seeing new control line engines that are mass produced anywhere in the world right now. I, myself, cannot afford $300+ for an engine.
Best Regards,
Bill

The Evo 36 is now for sale at Brodak, along with the rest of their Aviastars.

You could deal with Ian Russel directly if you are after an R&B Metamorph engine.

(Or if you like diesels PAW still make their dedicated 40.)

just my opinion,, I am not sure I can agree with this,, I have flown some rather significant large, heavy airplanes on the LA 46,, surprisingly,,
I have seen the evo at least locally, not be near as strong,, FOR A STUNT TYPE RUN,,
For years the rat race had me going around in circles, Now I do it for fun!
