Enya 61CXS Pro break-in
« on: April 22, 2008, 08:25:58 PM »
Here's another one for Randy:

I am about to start breaking in a new Enya 61CXS Pro, the control line version. The instructions are vague on break-in except to say to run it slightly rich for the first 30 minutes, and then forever. I am not sure of the internal construction features so not sure what "school" of break-in rules to apply. Randy, can you help with a break-in protocol for this engine?  My tentative plan is lots of 2-3 minute fast 4-cycle runs with cool down between, on 24% syn/castor mix Sig fuel, 12-4 Zinger wood prop, and good earplugs. Also intend to have the muffler mounted during the bench runs.

Hopefully in a week or two I can report how this thing performs in my Score in place of the ST51.

Hi Mike

I would suggest running it 3 ounces at a time with cool downs in between, set the engine to run the fastes 4 cycle it will run in, then beep it into a 2 cycle then back to the fast 4 cycle, you need to get the engine and piston/sleeve up to operating temp.
After about 1/2 gallon of fuel, put the motor into a 2 cycle  5 to 10 seconds at a time.

Regards
Randy

Thanks Randy. I will report back after I get it into an airplane. The manual says it will tolerate props from 11.5 to 13 inch with pitch in the 5-6 range. In the Score I will just have to experiment and see what it likes. Do you have a recommendation yet on whether this engine likes high rpm with flat prop, or mid rpm with more pitch? Nobody has yet reported results from actual experience in the air on this engine, so I may get to be the first!
