I just came into a few old engines from a friend of mine. I was wondering if anyone had constructed their own muffler for an obsolete engine?
I have scoured ebay looking for used parts without success. Maybe it's just better to trade them in.? ??? Here's the rundown:
OS Max 30, K&B Stallion 35 (new), and a couple old style Fox 35's. Maybe I'm getting old, but they are just a little too loud unmuffled for me. If you have made your own muffler, please post a pic. Thanks

I sell many tube and tongue mufflers for those engines that people just attach a radiator worm drive strap to, and with the OS 30 you can drill thru the exhaust to the other side and bolt on a muffler

Hello Tom, I don't have a camera to provide pictures currently. One product that many of us in our club use is Dubro aluminum extrusion material. http://shop.dubro.com/products/productdetail/6%22+Exhaust+Extension+Stock+%28QTY/PKG%3A+1+%29/part_number=213/101.0.1.1.5161.5189.0.0.0?pp=12& You can cut this material to any length and drill your own holes. I've used straps from Enya engines or just drilled the sides of the extrusion and tapped for a 4-40 screw. I then use a radiator hose clamp attached to the holes I tapped. You can get a small piece of aluminum to cap the bottom. Ken

I just got back from Sin City and am catching up on messages - glad to see you and James are having fun with those engines! I quickly realized I should have given you that old Mini-Muff-L-Aire tongue muffler. It goes right on that old Fox 36 and achieves some measure of sound supression, depending on how many washers you place between the baffle plates. PM or email your address and I'll mail it out; that'll be cheaper than you driving back here or me there. If I can find my old Tatone 45-65 Peace Pipe, I'll throw that in as well. It might fit the Stallion, though the two would add up to quite a few ounces.
I have an Aero Products CNC Tongue Muffler for a Fox 35 and it is indeed beautifully made and well worth the modest price. I suspect one of these would be great on the OS 30.
Edit: Looks like I suggested the Tongue Muffler for the Fox 35 would fit the OS 30 - it won't, I'm sure. The OS has a much wider exhaust stack. But there must be such a muffler available for the OS.

Randy Smith does sell a tongue muffler to fit the Max-S .30 and .35's. Like he mentioned, you have to drill out the threads of the case and exit out the back of the case. You can then bolt on the muffler. Randy's muffler are extremely light and work in my opinion the best provided you open the holes. I don't add any additional holes, I just start with stock and go from there opening a fraction at a time. I generally settle on 3/32 size holes. I've had to open even further. Ken
