Has anyone had any luck using JB Weld or PC-7 to repair mufflers or to modify them...
Just curious..didn't know how it would take the heat or any prob with the fuel...

I've heard of several people using the slower curing JB weld on mufflers and in one case on a motor.

You can use JB Weld on the muffler, as long as it is not on the header part where the screws to the motor go. That area almost always gets hot enough to melt the glue off. Works well for gluing together the mufflers with long screw down the middle. Clean things up well with solvent, apply the glue and wire brush it into the aluminum, then stick the muffler together. Use the screw as a back up, just in case.

I've molded Muffler lugs on Foxes behind the little "ears" they have provided using the regular slow cure JB Weld. No problem!

I had the ear pop off of a Double Star muffler for the 40. I used JB Weld and even used CF tow for reinforcement. It lasted three flights.
Like Phil C says, it doesn't seem to work in THAT application. The DS muffler is very light and proper tightening of the screws is crucial! I though I had done it right, but I must have had one side just a touch tighter than the other...... or something.

From what I've seen, JB Weld doesn't work at all in any kind of load bearing capacity. It's almost as strong as Bondo, or normal epoxy. I've used it on about 5 projects, and 4 of them failed. If it's anything that's going to be under tension or compression, it's probably not going to hold.

I've used JB Weld to repair a split in the brass header on the radiator of my Toyota! It has held now for about 3 years. Of course, the water doesn't get over 180 deg F.
