OK, so we have muffler rules to save us from problems with the neighbors. I just put a new tongue muffler on one of my 4 bolt 35's and the power seemed to disappear. Real bad! It has 10 3/32" holes on the flat side. Now, it seems to me I read somewhere where Don McClave, or someone from the NW had a routine for drilling mufflers. For OS 35S's he added or enlarged the holes on the flat side. For Foxes I seem to recall he added holes on the end of the muffler.

What say you? All comments greatly appreciated...

Well, I don't run Foxes (can't stand them). I've found that tongue mufflers for O.S. seem to need MORE holes, or larger ones. It's easy enough to drill them out. If you go too far, they can be plugged with rivets and JB Weld.

On another note: I'm impressed by the stock O.S. mufflers used on the OS 25, 35, and 46. Really ugly, but really quiet.

I don't think it makes any difference where the holes are power-wise. Other than that I think there is only one way to cut the power loss and that is to make the exit area larger - maybe just drill them all out to 1/8"?

You need 12 to 15 holes of that size, so add another row

I think Randy is right in just making more holes. Either way will work for increasing the area, but I think it will be less loud with more holes that are smaller. I made this muffler mod for my Super Cyke from a Fox 35 tounge muffler, and just drilled out the holes one size. It is OK, but I think it would be better with more holes of the smaller size.
