Title: MERCO 29 Black Head
Post by: Chris Gilbert IRL-1638 on November 07, 2006, 12:06:26 PM
Would anyone have a (scanned) engine report on the above motor?

The one I have starts beautifully, and for the most part runs like a dream, but I've no idea what sized model is best for it. Up to recently it was flying in a 450 sq in design, that it seemed to pull with authority on a 10x6 (5% nitro).

Many moons ago I did have it in a Nobler, but I remember thinking it was a little meek for that particular task.

Thanks in advance,

Hello all.
IŽve flown during several years a Merco 29 with a 500 sq.in model, with great success even in club competition. It turned on 27% castor and 5% nitro a Master airscrew nylon (didnŽt have source to wooden in the nineties) four strokinf on level flight al 8.600 rpm, swithing smoothly to approx 9400 in maneouvers.
I modded this engine blocking partialy (about 35%) the bypass, it was impresive and I strongly recommend it to you!!!!.
My 29 is a little tired, but I love it and probably weŽll fly together some day......
Good memories.....love those Mercos.
Regards.
Manuel

Hi guys,

Thanks for the info. Dave Day has updated his site since I visited last. All 35s though.

Cheers

All the timings on these 29/35 Mercos were the same, so performances will be more or less the same. I would say little to choose between an above average 29 and an average 35.
