mds .48 burps
« on: July 17, 2008, 02:37:30 PM »
??? I have a mds .48 that I am trying on a profile Pathfinder.  The engine puts out loads of power and spins a 12/6 prop easily.  Upright it runs great, same through all inside maneuvers, squares, loops, triangles.  Problems appear when I try outsides.  It seems to lean out some and by the third maneuver is barely pulling enough to get through the maneuver.  I tried adjusting the tank and that doesn't solve the problem.  I lowered the nitro from 10% to 5% and that helped some.  The tank setup I am using is a standard plastic clunk not set up for uniflow.  I have tried with with and without pressure and it seems to work best without although the Super Tigre needle has to be turned out almost 9 turns.  I am wondering if in the outsides the fuel is flooding out the plug.  Anyone experienced this problem before?

Nine turns?! First try blowing out the spray bar; sounds like some grit or something is in there. Also check for leaks somewhere in the fuel system; could be a pinhole.

We have tried 2 of the 49s rigged as both side and rear exhaust and have found that a 13 x5 pro Zinger clean up provides more thrust and flying ability.

Thanks for the info, I think I may have found the problem.  The venturi I had made was supposed to be drilled for .280.  I never measured it till last night and it is acutally around .375.  No wonder it needed 8 turns of the needle.  I talked to Tom Farmer about this and he picked up on the problem right away pointing me in the right direction.  I'll get another venturi turned and try it again.  It does have a ton of power with this one though!!!
