Evolution 61 for CL
« on: October 07, 2019, 08:16:35 PM »
Hi Gang, first Post on the Forum.

I acquired an Evolution 61 at a swap meet for free.  Not sure if it is a NX or NT.  It’s set up for ignition with wiring and some sort of magnet or something Inset in the Thrust washer.  I’ve removed all the ignition accessories and would like to run this as a CL motor.
Are Venturi’s available and is a standard Thrust washer a common item.  I’m not a newbie, but I am as far as Evolution engines are concerned.  I’ve run ST G21/46’s, LA 46’s, all the standard stunt motors and also several high end Combat engines for F2D and Fast/Slow engines.   Compression seems very good, bearings are smooth.  I have no idea as to the timing.  I saw good reviews about the E-36, just wondering if anyone is running the 61?  It’s marked 61, not 60.  Open to all advice.  Thanks, Tim

S'up, soupkup? The Evolution 60 and 61 are completely different animals. The 60 is a small case, that fits the same mount as many 46's. the 61 is a bigger engine, typical 61 size. The 60 was the "dedicated" stunt engine. There was a factory produced spark ignition 61, which is what you have. The thing to do is find manuals or parts listings for both the glow and spark 61's and see how many parts are the same. I can't say I've ever heard of anyone converting the spark engine back to glow. You may be better off looking for someone who wants to trade (and don't tell them you got it free!)

Good luck.

Thanks Bill,  I’ll start looking at parts.  I think I saw Tower still had some.

Actually, this engine has a “10” on the case and Head, not 60 or 61.  All the 61’s I’ve seen listed (and parts) have 61 stamped in the case and head.  So c’mon experts, is this a 60 that someone tried to make into an ignition engine, or something else??

Load up some pics.  That would help figure out what you got.

Of course "10" is for 10cc. Just another way to positively distinguish the ignition engine parts from the glow parts. And yes, there is a dedicated spark ignition version of the 61 engine. We sold them at the hobby shop, but I never saw one run.
