Head Gasket Material

I made a head gasket from Perfect Parts Co. item #P105.  It is 1/64" thick.  Not sure what it's made of, but is advertised "for most sealing applications".

Thought I would get some opinions before putting it back together.  Has anyone tried this stuff?

Hi, Floyd - yes, I've used it many times in the past.
Works well but, I prefer a metal gasket.
The reason being heat transfer. I believe the metal gasket stabilizes the temperature of the head and cylinder fins.
Not sure if my reasoning is significant but it makes sense to me.
For what it's worth, I do not use ANY non-metallic gaskets in my engines.

Bob Z.  I understand.  I was thinking a composite fiber gasket would compress and make a better seal.  A metal gasket would work, but I might have to first lap the head onto the cylinder for a perfect fit.

Good call, Floyd.
If the mating surfaces are not smooth, a metal gasket may not seal.
That's where a fiber gasket works quite well.

I have been using the Perfect gasket material for years Floyd. It works fine. Seals heads and does compress some for a good seal. Most any other gasket material will leak. I use to get the black asbestos gasket from Kustom Kraftsmanship. Have not been able to find that since he closed shop.

Copper and Aluminum .003 to .015 conform fairly well in my experience
I am also a big fan of PermaTex Anaerobic Gasket Maker

Guys,
I just found the Perfect Parts Co. web site (www.perfectpartscompany.com). They have the gasket material in the model airplane section. They have three shipping options, first is snail mail, next is 2 day regular, last is small package (half the price of the 2 day regular, nice option). I ordered 3 packs. Glad I saw this post as I needed info on gasket material for mufflers, this will work perfect.

    Floyd,
 It sounds like the stuff I used in the past when nothing would stop the head leak. It was thick so I increased the venturi size a bit. Retorqued it from time to time. Worked fine.  What engine are you using it in ?
