Title: McCoy 35 RH bolrs
Post by: Lyle Spiegel on February 18, 2018, 04:15:42 PM
I have orginal 35 RH in goos shape. Would like to replace cylinder head & backplate with socketheads. What is thread and length i need? Also, what size Philips tip do i need to use so I dont bugger up the original ones?
Same question for Johnson 35 CS.
Thanks

Use a #1 or #2 Phillips screw driver, just test how well it fits and if it feels solid, then crank it loose.  Use a small scale or ruler and measure from the bottom of the head to the end of the shank, and that is the length. No real mystery with USS stuff.
   Type at you later,

Rhank you. I have feeling thread might not be 4-40. Maybe 5-40? Hoping some one will verify.

Yes, 4-40.
You can get them from McMaster-Carr.
Stainless if you want.

Don't waste your time with Phillips head when socket screws are available. I redid about a dozen of the McCoy red heads and used them. I also did not use any gaskets but used liquid gaskets and have never had a leak or blown seal. Also you get a slight compression increase. All of them turned into one flip starters.
Most of the McCoy engine I saw were not wore out, just badly maintained.
