Enya 5224 venturi puzzle.

Hello Everyone,

  Just got a genuine Enya venturi from Randy. Its for an old Enya 5224 model of .35 capacity. The venturi number is S2521.
  Right, out with the RC carb, undo the 2 screws and wiggle it free, grab the new venturi and..................it won't fit in the crankcase hole!!!!!!!!!!.....................Whip out vernier, hole 12 mm diameter, venturi OD 13mm!!!!!!!!!
  I assume that I have ordered the correct venturi, so did the venerable 5224 go through a modification in the crankcase hole diameter, during its long run?

  Turning down the diameter from 13 to 12 mm is no problem, just curious as to the explanation!?

Hi Andrew

the venturie you ordered was for a ENYA 35S, this was the correct venturie for the 35S that has been around for 2 decades or more, I think yours must be a little older than that, and obviously the venturie diameter has changed, It may be that the old 35  will take the 20 or 25 size venturie. I will check tommorow  and  see

Hi Randy

       Don't bust a gut to satisfy my curiosity! I am in NO way complaining, the venturi has been turned down and fits a treat. I am just interested in the history of the 5224. It seems to have had a very long production life, even longer if you count the ones released a little while ago by Enya. There seems to be quite a variation between some that I have seen over the years and its just interesting to see the evolution of the type.
  I picked this one up for £3 in the form of a bag of bits labelled Enya spares in the LHS. Its in  very good condition now that I have put the pieces back together!
  The only thing wrong was an out of round crankpin, the rod bush was completely unworn!. A scrabble in my spares bin, produced a good crank, so I just needed to convert to a stunt venturi and NVA!

Just for curiosity I measured my two 35 model 5224's and both had the 12mm bore size. The venturi was 6.65mm as best I could read before the needle valve got in the way. My 45 model 6001 has a spigot bore of 11mm but the 45 model 6002 has a spigot bore of 13mm and a venturi bore of 7.55mm. However, if the 6002's venturi was turned down to 12mm then the position of the needle valve hole would make it stand proud by about 1.5mm so it'd need an O ring to seal it instead of the paper gasket.
