Title: LA 46 Wrist Pin Stiff in Piston
Post by: Peter in Fairfax, VA on July 29, 2020, 10:04:25 AM
I have an LA 46 that where the conrod will slide freely on the wrist pin, but the wrist pin is stiff in the piston.  A lukewarm antifreeze solution was adequate to  press out the wrist pin.  How important is it that the wrist pin float in the piston?  What is the best way to clean it?

I'm thinking to let the piston sit in the warm crockpot antifreeze overnight, then scrape inside the piston's wrist pin bore with a small hardwood scraper, likely a modified toothpick.  The bore likely has castor oil baked onto it.  I could use a drill bit to get at it, but do not want to scratch the bearing surface.

It is jammed by burned oil.  Though I'll know later if the crockpot will loosen up the burned oil.

Great ideas.  What solvent on the Q-Tip?  I guess I can use green antifreeze.

1. Do I need to be concerned about my electric drill chuck marring the pin?

2. The "Super Clean" looks interesting.

3.  The crock pot has worked well on keeping my LA 46 engines and mufflers clean, especially the silver ones.

Pays to warm it, to pull the pads. then there flexable & the ends dont snap .

A toothpick or 1/16 wire through the pin , and polish it , on 12000 paper on a flat surface , maybe .

Forceps catapult pins into the beyond. beware .

Holding the pin , rotate the piston . Shouldnt necesarilly be entirely ' free ' , as if youve held a new floating gudeon - piston , and rotated , youll of felt .

Though it should be nearly free . Oil the sucker'n it will be. Maybe Singer oil . No Binding .
