LA 46 owners, what's your prop of choice?
-
I have been happy using the thunder tiger cyclone 11 x 4.5
-
Zinger Pro 11-4 or the carbon fiber Phelps prop from Tom Wilk.

Hi Sean!
There is a "List your set up" on the LA.46 in the engine section. I'm going to start with the 12.25 X 3.75 APC. I also am going to be running the OS .25LA/FP venturi.

Majic 11.25-4.25 2 blade or majic 12-4.33 cut to 11 three blade.
Edited for typo

APC 12.25 X 3.75

Majic 11.25-4.25 2 blade or majic 14-4.33 cut to 11 three blade.
Majic 12.24 x 4.25 , 12 x 4.33 3blade and the majic 12.5 x 5 is very good on that motor
as is the Bolly 11 3/4 x 4 1/4 or Bolly 12.2 x 4.2

I think a lot depends one the plane too. I have three planes and all three use different props.

ARF Nobler TT 11x4.5 (I think) Stock LA
Vector APC 12.25x3.75 Randy Smith LA

What Mike said.

Tornado Plastikote 11-5. (Okay, I'm yanking yer chain there.)
Generally, I'd pay a lot of attention to any suggestions from Randy Smith.
('nuff said.)

You will see what Paul Taylor says about his planes. The LA .46 I have used has been on several planes. Each plane used a different prop to get it to fly like I want it to fly. So depending on the plane, you may have to try several different props. But, if you lack experience, in my opinion, start with a Power Point 11 X 5 or Zinger 11 X 5.

I've found that at 5,000 feet in ABQ the RSM 11X6 works well on a LA .46 powered Tutor II ( it's closer to an 11 X 5 per someone who checked).
Same plane in Phoenix, lower altitude - I went down in pitch and up in Dia. APC 11.5 x 4.25 worked well there
If I ever get my new TutorII done, I will see what works in hot humid Florida air at 70' above sea level.

Very true, Bill. Not only that, the rest of the setup matters a lot. When I flew with Larry Richards, Claude and George in Reno, I had brought a .46LA powered Forerunner. I'd used the .46 a lot in a Humongus with a MACS Muffler and an 11.5 x 4 APC...worked great with 10-22 and a .285" venturi. Same setup didn't work in Reno, and it wasn't the different airplane. It wouldn't spin up enough rpm to get the 1/4 wave tuned pipe mojo workin'. Tried an 11-5 APC, no magic. What worked was an APC 10.5 x 4.5. It might have worked with the 11.5 x 4, if I'd pumped it full of 25% nitro, but I didn't do that. The 10.5 x 4.5 worked very well. So, keep in mind that the venturi size (and spraybar dia.), muffler, altitude and the whole danged setup matters a lot. That's why so many wildly different props make so many different guys happy. n~ Steve

I have found that the Pro Zinger 11 X 5 works well for me with the RPMS set about 9200 on the ground! When I get above sea level I find that I must reset the needle for an optimum run!

Too easy. I thought it would be some site that I had to translate from Chinese into English.
Tower makes it too easy!

We are using APC 12X5 down here in La.w/hemi'd heads- approx. .282 venturi's, and ST /RS NVA's, PM-10/22(11/11) fuel- Some use 12x5 EW wood props-Some run uniflow, some run pressure- both seem to do real good.
