LA 46 Needle Valve location
« on: April 13, 2008, 08:35:56 AM »
I have been out of C/L flying for some time now and got the bug again. A lot of things have changed for the better it looks to me. There are some good kits and engines out there to work with. I purchased an LA 46 from Tower and wanted to know if people are flying them with the needle valve left in the stock position mounted to the rear of the backplate or installing a needle valve assembly in the venturi. If this is the case what needle valve assembly should I try to get.
Thanks,
Tom

Tom,
People are doing both, and both are having success, although typically, people who move it to the traditional location at the venturi believe it works better that way. It really shouldn't matter at all. Leaving it where it is is certainly safer for your fingers.

I run 2 OS 46's . had the plastic back covers leak on both. . Converted to metal plate fp 40 from tower and NV assy. . this has given me  11 gals of flight without touching NV.  most of the Delta Park OS flyer's use this setup without any problems,  11 4  or 11 5 prop, with 10/ 22 fuel.have fun Geoffrey out

If you go to the NVA in the venturi the OS NVA for the 20-25 FP is what is used, but your out of luck on the metal back plate as OS discontinued those.

A good coat of sylicone glue for the backplate to crankcase should solve most problems.  Do go with the venturi/needle valve set-up.  The little O rings don't last long on the remote set-up.  DOC Holliday
