If its into the plating , I would call Brian Gardner for a nice replacement.

Hi Ron

Looks to me like the nickle plating is  peeled off in that area , so you would new a new  P/S
If you need anything for them  I have most every part

Hi Randy,

That was my first impression too, but the "spots" dont have a void eg. crater like area if the liner peeled
its residue of penentrate thats 'etched' into the metal

**Update it's a Peeler **

Think the ' Flash ' nickle plateing on theres only a few microns thick ? .

Seen a few looking like that , still have comp. , but the ' chrome ' has gone , dissapeared , dematerialised . A.W.O.L.  etc etc .

Ron  that gold looking metal  spots you are seeing is the  BRASS  that was under the  sputtered on nickle plating, It is very very thin, just a couple of 10 thou thick, There is  NO chrome on OS liners, they are  electroless plated nickle, Look close you will see that is the brass you are looking at.  I doubt very seriously that any oil you put in the engine   soaked  into the metal  and  colored it gold.  I have  had liners here  that looked  exactly like yours

If you do not desire to put any money into this engine, I would be interested in it to put a Brian Gardner piston/liner in. I have been looking for good core that is worn out or has some other affliction with it's piston and liner. Non of the LA.46s that I own are ready for it and I don't want to take a good piston and liner out of one.
   Type at you later,

Hi Dan,

I'd consider it if I didn't already have a busted "spare" LA which has good internals, I have another LA in pieces
which will get assembled one day, I'll do both together, why? ........I don't know they are no ST 46 in my book  :-\
