I got some metal Backplates to swap out on two of my LA 46s.
I noticed the crankshafts were different. I pulled them out and weighed them.
One has a counter weight that looks to be cast the other smooth and machined.
The smooth one is 3 grams heavier.
I did a search and did not find much but found one thread that said something about replacing a LA crank
with a FP crank made a difference and some people added weight to the counter weight.

Paul,
Just wondering if you have any idea of the time of manufacture of the two engines in question?
Of the several LA 46s I have (blue and silver), I think all have the machined shaft.

Left one is a very first lot.

It appears to be timed a skosh differently too.

The early ones had the cast cranks, the later have the heavier ones, they are all still supposed to be for the 35 , 40 FP and 40 46 LA
