Title: LA 46
Post by: Jim Morris on October 24, 2007, 10:06:28 AM
Since I wrecked my two good ships Im getting a Vactor arf.Im planning on trying an LA46.I have never run one. What would be a good muffler and not make the ship nose heavy and still allow good fuel consumption? And will it 4-2-4 without rework? Thanks.

Jim, Scott Dinger makes excellent tube muffler for the LA.46. The weight and quality are excellent. Ron.

Not certain, but I think Randy Smith (Aeroproducts--see Vendor section of this site) has what you need---as well as most anything else.

Personal experience with the LA, they dont like some tongue mufflers, I run mine with a stock muffler, baffle removed, and stinger opened up slightly. 10 x 22 Powermaster fuel. APC 12.25 x 3.75 prop. launch at 9700. My vector uses a uniflow plumbed clunk tank. either the .275 or .285 venturi seems to work ok , I use a Tigre needle valve assembly. If you use an OS, then the smaller venturi is better. The run is more wet 2 with a soft break on mine.

I have an LA 46 in one of my ARF Vectors. I am running  Powermasters 7 1/2 nitro ( mix a gallon of 10 and a gallon of 5 % nitro) 22 ( 11% syn 11% castor) and an additional 4 ozs. of castor a gallon. An aero pruducts tongue muffler under pressure and a Master Airscrew 11/5 prop with a brodak 4 oz. tank. the engine has one head gasket in it and the remote needle was replaced with a stock FP 40 valve and spraybar I also replaced the plastic backplate with a metal one.  I launch at about 10,000 rpm and do 5.5 laps, it 2-4,s great  and has enough fuel to do the whole patten, I get around 5  min on the 4 ozs. I am using .018 x 63' lines

I have never put a stopwatch on just the pattern, but I know it takes me more than 5 minutes to start the engine, walk (fast) to the center and do a full contest pattern with 5.1 second laps. I sure wouldn't feel comfortable flying an LA46 (or a Brodak 40) on 4 ounces.

Is there any way to shove a 4.5 or 5 ounce tank in there?

Ron

5 min is a little short to me. A 4.5 oz tank would make me feel better. How can I get in touch with some after market tube muffs and some head shims?

Yes, I checked aeroproducts and didnt really see anything for the LA. Does Scott have a web site or E mail? I would like to get in touch with him.
