LA 25 Inflight noise
« on: October 03, 2010, 07:30:20 PM »
Ran a la25 first with 10/20 fuel, Started to make a noise like the muffler was coming off, and started to run away. os #3 Plug. Changed to 5/25 Fuel helped a little. I put a fp20 back plate and neddle valve in it. Has any one had this problem. Is this detenation? Colder plug head shims. Does not do this on the bench or on the ground.

Thanks Steve

Steve,
Have you tried running the engine a little richer to see what happens?  Also, I assume this is the model that I flew in Flint.  Have there been any changes other than the weather?

This is the plane that you flew John, changed the pushs rod to the new hole and it flys a lot better. Could not get the 20fp to start, it was a steel liner, and thought it was abn and did not run the oil precentage I should have.. So I put on the 25la so much more power, but it sounds like something is going to fall off.

Steve,
Glad to hear that the pushrod hole change is working for you.  How about some information on what prop you are running on the LA?  For my 25 FP on my Flitestreak I am running an APC 10x4 with good results.  I do launch it a bit on the rich side as the engine makes good power and it does not need to be leaned out.

I running the 9/4 The same prop as the 20fp,and a #3 os plug. A guy at the field said that LA takes a #8 plug. I dont know much about this motor I took it off a RC plane I got 15 bucks, but it was never run. It ran good on the bench, but maybe it is now freeing up. I have a 10/4 I could try that. Wish I lived closer, I need a lot of help. This is a lot different than setting up RC.

Steve,
I don't have any experience with the LA 25, but if I recall, I think that I found that my FP 25 liked the 10x4 better.  Give it a shot and report back what you find.
