I may be wrong but I doubt it.

Sure is.  I looked just a couple weeks ago and it was about $60 on Amazon.  Just in time for the Nats fuel supply!

Thanks Perry!  Just ordered a gallon.

Will Klotz Benol Castor Oil be good to mix with the original Techniplate for a 5% 50/50 mix to get something close to the old Sig Champion fuel?

Tres

That's exactly what I do when making fuel. I blend 22% 50/50 of the exact same products.

I'm sure it is but WOW $57 a gallon.  I get castor from Bulk Apothocary or Wholesale Supplies for around $22.....

Klotz Benol and  Bulk Apothocary castor are not the same castor oil.

Castor is castor.   They may put some additive in it -some dye for sure.   The most pure comes from the first pressing which it what is used for cosmetics and food products.  Later pressings use chemicals to draw out the oil.  NOBODY I can find actually grades the stuff.  I think Bakers AA was a sales pitch by the Baker family.

Of course they aren't!  Benol has a red dye in it plus additives to "fo0rtify" it that aren't really necessary for model fuel, and the cost being more than double helps tip the scale. I ain't paying that much more just because it's red! Gimme the pure stuff!

Bulk Apothocary is castor straight from the bean.
Klotz Original Techniplate is all synthetic, Super techniplate is synthetic with a little castor, Benol is a castor base with synthetic modifiers. The reason for this is that big engines run much hotter than our little toys. If you ran pure castor in a 125cc two stroke it would varnish up in a short while.

S0, when using a 5% nitro 22% 50/50 lubricant in the fuel mix, what is the best castor oil to use with Original Techniplate syn. oil in model engines?

Bulk Apothocary or Klotz Benol?  Or does it matter?

And which castor oil would be the best if using 5% nitro 22% lubricant with 100% castor for the lubricant?

Thanks,
Tres

You probably couldn't tell the difference.  However if you are running it in a well-used all castor engine like a Fox I'd use the pure castor with no additives that MIGHT break down the castor varnish in the engine and render it useless.  In a fairly new engine it shouldn't really matter other than what you pay for the fuel.

I use Klotz Original Techniplate and Bulk Apothcary castor 50/50 in everything with an aluminum piston (even ringed). I use straight Bulk Apothcary castor in everything with an iron piston. I don't use goKart/motorcycle modified castor in my model engines but if you do, don't mix different brands together. You never know how the additives will react to each other.
