Power of a Brodak .25?
« on: September 24, 2015, 08:23:28 AM »
     Hi:

Will a Brodak .25 fly an airplane that has 520 "sq. and weighs 32 oz.? I have been told yes and no. It is a long ride to check it out to be sure.

                                                                                                        Opinions,

We've seen a few, mostly on RSM Ringmasters. The way I see it, if you put a bigger & heavier engine on it, it won't be 32 oz anymore, so I'd say yes. But I'd also think seriously about getting one of the new Magnum XLS .25's and putting a venturi in it. One reason is that the parts support, engine availability, and price seems to be quite a bit better. Look at Hobby King...ASP is the same engine.

I have questions! What is your altitude, typical temperatures, and wind? Are you ok with running some extra nitro, maybe 20%? Will you work hard to optimize the propeller, or just use what you can get at the LHS? Will you adjust your line length for this model, or will you use the same lines for multiple planes? Can you do the whole pattern, or not? FWIW, really good fliers (not me!) can get a plane through the pattern (and make it look good) with less engine than most of us. That sort of stuff will make a lot of difference.  H^^ Steve

B25 has less power than an LA25, I would never put it on a plane that big if I wanted to do stunts.

That Magnum, OTOH, should have power comparable to a 25AX, so it ought to pull such a plane pretty well.  It's also heavier than either a Brodak 25 or a 25LA.

You're safer with a Brodak 40.  A 46LA can handle more plane than that, but it'll do fine pulling 520 squares.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.
