Johnson 35 intake bore -- Hey, Marvin!
« on: October 04, 2008, 10:28:47 AM »
I've had an eBay Streak that was sold with a McCoy 29 in it, but I was trying a Torp 29S in it at first, then got distracted.  Now I've gotten back to it, and the Johnson seemed to also fit well enough, although now the intake bore looks way too large for running on suction, but none of the Johnsons that I've located among mine have restrictors (the "S" 33 hasn't turned up yet).  I've looked at a 29, and a 32, as well as the 35, and the 35 wouldn't hold a needle setting when tested . . which was before comparing the intake bore with a Fox 35, Torp 29S, or Veco 35 (either one, early or S-100).

When you were out in west Texas with James and Riley, you had Johnsons yourself, right?

Yeah I had a few johnsons, but most of them had a restrictor in the venturi that we removed and threw away and put the engine on either pen bladder or case pressure.  some of the earlier versions did not have a restrictor, so we usually bored out the venturi and still went with pressure.  I may still have some of the old restrictors in the junk barrel, so if you can,  get me the bore diameter on your johnson's venturi and whether or not it is tapered, and I will look
