o.k. ,

Charlie Chang miss machined a abc piston on a FSR 40 Magnum , However the Liner fits the FP case , bar the locating pin . its 35 Deg out .

As the IRON FP 40 ( series One ) piston fits the Magnum ABN liner nicely ( its loose in the FP one - will push straight thru - not sure if Castor & a bit of ' lacquer build up ' will sort that .  :P )

What would be the dreaded consequences of running a IRON piston in a BRASS / NICKLE sleeve ( if its brass ) so actually ,

it;d be a I B N , if were being fussy .

If you ever get it to running temperature before iron piston eats the Ni coating away, it will not be stable as brass sleeve has too high thermal expansion coefficient to work well with iron. So, in higher temperature the fit will be loose.

Thanks .

was thinking the expansion might be trouble .

As theyre both scrap , I may well ' see what happens ' , as the cold fit is just about right .
Either that or see if castor will ' lacquer up ' the piston to a good fit in the std. liner . Sounds like carrying the optimism a bit far tho .  :(

Reading Peter Chinn stuff on OS's ( Specifically the FSR 21 Car Engine , this ' nickle cooating ' is ACTUALLY ' Nickasil ' .

Where its silicon impregnated nickle , so very hard - but only about three microns thick .

As it has a good ? reputation in automobiles & motorcycles , Mercedes even use it now , good air filtration seem like a requirement ,
as airbourne dust would be abbrasive , that and wrong / inadequate oil seem to be the problem , rather than the liner itself.

Though CHOME is much deeper ( thicker ) and more tolerant of other inadequacies . So generally more durable .
Sounds like if youve a good A B N engine , the flitered intake is likely a prerequisite , if its dry'n dusty at the flying site .

Of Course , if anyones got a good / new FSR 40 Magnum Piston , . . . . lemme know , please . H^^
