Hybrid engine: What can I do with it?
« on: June 05, 2013, 10:15:55 AM »
    Hi"

About 35 years ago, I bought an engine that was a hybrid between an O.S .35 and a ST .46.  The builder took an O.S 35 case and modified it to take a ST .46 piston, sleeve and head.  The engine now measured .40 in displacement. I think tha I have a letter someplace that said that this engine was put together by a chap named Tom Lay.

     My questions areas follows:

Do I have to break in on the bench? If so how long should I run it.

What prop would work well on it for stunt flying?

What size of an airplane would be well suited for this engine?

Is this engine worth putting it into an airplane nowadays?

I think that a friend of mine has one of these engines and he told me that it would only run in a 4 cycle. Would this produce a nice slow speed stunt plane that would be fun to fly?

Any information or comments regarding this engine?

                                                                                                        Tia,

                                                                                                         Frank
