Help ID CS15?
« on: January 24, 2016, 08:42:44 AM »
Hi Guys
I found this engine on sale on another RC site, the seller wants $50.00 and claims it is a cs.09 1.5cc and "new in box".
Is it a .09 or .15?
Is it worth $50?
It really doesn't look new in box.
Any advice? Thanks.
Mike

Actually it is not worth $50.00 even brand new. Carlson sold them for $35.00 each or 5 for $100.00. Worst $100.00 I ever spent. They all seem to need some rework and there is a list of upgrades that you can do to themTrust me there are better 15 engines to be had. The other brands might cost more but they will at least be of better quality.

I have no idea about this engine

but bored and saw the diesel response by Lipsett and had to look twice at the glow head engine being asked about

I got given a CS .15 combat engine that is a very good runner.....for me with my fuel, prop, and use....that same engine showed on e-bay a few times in the $100 range

.09 in the ad and 15 in the photo (0.15 CI= 2.45806 cc) or (0.09 CI = 1.474836 cc) on the case just make me think the seller is oblivious

I do not know the CS marking standard but believe the 15 on my case is the same as all my other .15 engines

I  do not like the engine displacement and power descriptions we use...wishing we would all insist on a CI or CC standard or watts or HP...I don' really care just normalize the standard or be willing to describe it both ways

Thanks guys
Your replies are pretty much what I thought I would hear about this engine.
I think I will pass on it.

Mike,
That is the best decision you could make. The odd one or two can be excellent, but the majority are simply engine kits which need a lot of work to get them running well. I always think that CS stands for Chinese S*^t!

Quite an interesting collector's item. I wasn't aware they made a glow version of this.  ::)

Good post, Andrew - I agree entirely!
When I was working with John Brodak developing the early Brodak 049, they were supplied by CS.
The early prototypes were fine and ran quite well. I still have one of them.
Production? Another story. We received a batch of 100 and not one of them would run.
Some were so loose that the piston would literally drop through the sleeve - ZERO compression.
Others were so tight that they could not turn over.
Absolute junk. My guess is that they were some sort of high school project with no tools other than a hammer and file!
I have no idea about the engine Mike mentioned but somewhere in my junk box I have a brand new CS 1.5 CC and it appears to be a speed engine - looks nothing like the picture.
