Master Airscrew 11" 3 blade prop
« on: February 12, 2011, 09:53:27 AM »
Has anyone used these on their OS .46LA?

If so, how well does it work?

Thanks!
Bill

One of the Californians (Wade Fikes?...not real sure of name or spelling) flew a green USA-1 with a .46LA (which boggled my mind) at GSSC in Clovis ('08?). I asked him the prop...a 12-6 Master Airscrew 3 blade clipped to 11.5" dia. It flew quite well, so I asked if it was super light or something...no, over 60 oz. So, I'd look at that 12-6 also.

Bryan Carr of Calgary likes the 10-5 3 blade on his XLS .36...might work on the round head XL, too.  Bryan said the pitch was about 3.5", so you might want to try an 11-6 on the .46.   I'd suggest giving them a try if you really need a cheap 3 blade.  Report back!  H^^ Steve

I've been using a 12x6 MA 3-blade clipped to 11.75" / repitched to 4", and it has been working great on my Pathfinder. The .46LA has more torque then most people thinks.. It actually turned a full size repitched MA 12" x 4 -  3-blade no problem, no sagging through the sqr-8 & OH-8, lots of power on climbs.

Actually it's Carter Fisk, he gets real good performance from that prop and consistent impressive runs with the LA-46 that is turning it. Does a pretty good pattern with that USA-1 also. Probably worth a try.  8)

I got a couple 11-7 MAS 3 blades on the advice of Willis Swindell a few years back.  Not for a LA .46 at the time though.  He said they pitch out around 5".  Have not used the props yet, but seems the LA .46 should like them.  At about 5" pitch and 3 blades at 11" dia., it should compare, somewhat, to the 12.25X 3.75 APC as to load.  And let the engine run at a "slightly lower rpm.

Possible usage?  Oriental and need prop clearance, can't go over 11" with out changes.  Will give it a shot ASAP.  Maybe this afternoon!
