Custon piston and sleeve for ST G21/46. Who makes them?
« on: June 12, 2014, 01:02:36 PM »
    Hi:

i am looking to purchase a custom piston and sleeve for the ST G21/46.  I have read that someone is making an ABC or AAC sleeve with a custom piston and hemi head.  Where do I find the seller and what do they cost?

I tried a chap in Australia but my computer will not contact him.  Anybody know where I may purchase these items?

                                                                                                                               Tia,

                                                                                                                               Frank

Did you at least do a search. There are 30-40 hits about ST/46 ABC motors
Brian Gardner is the man making then and he lives in Australia. I believe he is getting a new list of people to put in a order for them. You need to prepay as it is a big expense for him to order 50. I have over 2000 runs on the very first ST/46 conversion to ABC and it still runs strong.

         Hi EddyR:

Yes, I did do a search for ST .46 piston and sleeves.  I went back as far as 2006 when an Australian chap quit making engine parts to ride a motorcycle.   I then found that another chap was doing the actual production work. I tried to contact the manufacturer but my computer would not permit me to contact the person in Australia.

In any case, I have bee reading about these things for quite awhile but I could not get a message through.  thus the inquiry on this site.  A friend of mine is looking to rebuild a ST .46.

I will attempt to contact the above address and if I am not successful, I Will be asking again on this site.

                                                                                                                   Thanks for the help,

                                                                                                                    Frank

    Hi Eddy:

I have just learned that the reason that I can not contact Brian Gardner is because my Microsoft Office Small Business Edition has expired.

In order to contact Brian, I must join this Microsoft feature.  I talked to the wife about joining and she gave me two thumbs down as it is quite expensive to  have it installed on my computer.

Is ther another way that I may contact people via their web adddys without subscribing to the Microsoft Office Program? Is there a vendor on this site who also imports these parts for the ST .46 and the OS .35 engines made by Brian Gardner?

I do not need these things for myself but I was attempting to help a friend.

  Thanks for listening.

                                                                                                                       Frank

Frank,
Just download Firefox for free and you should be able to contact Brian no problems. Brian often frequents the forum and may well answer your question  when he next posts.
For some background, Brian used to run an aeromodelling outfit called Bristunt, maybe 15 years ago. He first started making ABC sets for ST60s if my memory is correct. I tried to get one back then but was too late! Brian sold out the business and disappeared off my radar. He reappeared a year or so back. I think he was badly injured in a M/cycle accident. To keep his sanity he started organising ABC sets for various engines. So far I have had an ST60 unit and an OS Max 35 unit. Mine display excellent quality and are far ahead of what the engines were like back in the day.
Brian is one hell of a nice guy and can recommend the P/L sets he is getting made, your friend won't be disappointed!

Ditto to what was said above. As you can probably surmise from the SS posting, the P&L sets are made in pre-sold batches. No middle man, no stocked on shelves. Orders are taken, P&L sets are made, money is received, item is sent out. 46 sets were made recently, may be awhile before another run is made. If you post that you are looking for one someone may have a set that they would be willing to sell.  8)

I have set up many ST/46 and ST/35 motors with the ABC sets. One must be careful with the ST/46 sets as they will not fit in older 46 motors. They will not fit a double ring motor or old crankcase's marked ST-29 Some of the older motors have thin sleeves in them and the new parts will not fit.  All the ST/35 motors seem to be the same and the parts have fit every motor I have seen. I have seen some 46 pistons than needed more clearance at the rod and wrist pin.

Thanks for pointing Frank in the right direction fellas. I did receive an email from him & I've replied with prices etc.

My system for all the ABC sets: I take a waiting list, have a batch done, contact everyone on the list when I have them ready to go out, receive money, post out.

Some have complained in the past that I take too long etc. Unfortunately I sometimes have to wait till I can afford to fund a production run. They are not cheap and my margins are very low. I refuse to take money up front in case of lengthy delays. I do this for the love of the hobby even though I no longer fly myself.

For the record, it was a car crash that has left me with the spinal injuries ( with the at fault driver not suffering a scratch)....not my beloved bikes which still sit in the garage with the hope that maybe one day I'll be able to ride again. We all need something to motivate us.

Your friend will be very pleased, I have a set for my OS 35 and the quality is outstanding, I was all set to get one of the ST kits only to discover I had 2 .40's I always thought thought the R/C motor was a .46  HB~> oh well Brian I am certain had no trouble selling it. He is a gentleman to deal with and a man of his word. Now if only he would make double bushed rods for Fox .35's. :)T.J.
