Super Tigre G21/.40?
« on: July 13, 2013, 06:07:46 PM »
    Hi:

I see a few of these engines for sale and would like to know if they would be any good for stunt/sport flying? The prices range from $30.00-$75.00.

I always liked the G21 series of engines but I have never owned a .40.

Frank     I have run a lot of the ST/40 and people all ways end up telling me how well my ST.46 runs. They just assume it is a .46 I would not recommend you buying any old ST/40-46 unless you know how to rebuild them. They will have the wrist pin frozen to the piston and the ring may work but it will not develop full power with out a new Frank Bowman ring. The ball bearings will need cleaning also. If you can do all this then go for it. NOTE n1 n1 n1 The wrist pin MUST be pushed out before removing the connecting rod from the crank pin. Forcing it off will crack the connecting rod every time. If the wrist pin is frozen how do you get it out?????? There are several ways but sometimes they are frozen solid. Most people who buy these motors run than as they got them and have poor results.  Sad to say a old motor that is NEW IN THE BOX will have all the above problems.  Converting a 46 to ABC is the only way to go. I have the  first Brian Gardner ABC converson and it is still running strong after years of use. He is making the ABC parts again http://www.clstunt.com/htdocs/dc/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=103&topic_id=379271&mesg_id=379271&page=#384284

Mufflers / ? . the 21/40 has a bit of piston cut away , to clear at B.D.C. supposeadly .

I got mine to bits , with the sleeve frozen . still is . replaced bearings .
Maybe I flicked the rod of the big end with the ' Z ' screwdriver .
Doubt anything was frozen .

Some used Em for Rat Race or R/C pattern , aeons ago .

Mine was in the Mighty Folkerts . 57 Oz. Aerobatic ship .
Variety of props , fuels , & muffled / unmuffled .

First Flight was on the 9 mm bore intake , C'case pressure , and a 11 x 4 Tornado .
Fine for horizontal eights upwind .

Fuel Consumption about the same as on the 12 x 6 Master Wood & Zero Nitro , & 1/8 intake .
as in 6 Oz aint half enough .

Normally a 11 x 5 , 5 or 10 nitro , 6 Oz fine .

Though on 20 % N , someone thought the fuel consumption was something else . Mayve been with the big intake .
thought the bearings were audable too . They were . replaced em with orrible ' Nitto 's .

Going to cut the case of the sleeve , if its stubborn ,  one day . As was kindly supplied with New Case & Head .
Id brazed the split ( S/H R/C ) case at intake & shaved the sides when I got it last centurie . Plug thread stripped too .
thats gruesomely fixed too , but theyll be done . One Day .

Yammers very nicely , and takes the skin of youre finger on 20 % N , stock compression .  LL~ %^@

Head Bolt Patterns NOT 46 P.C.D. , Crank / rod IS same Part No .

Good bet for a profile or Combat .  VD~

Or a Combat Flyer flying Stunt .  H^^

versatile & Durable , o.k. for Carrier too .  S?P

or Two for a Twin .  :! anyone got another good case , some turkey cut the muffler lugs of my second $ 20 one .
Probly one of those Combat Flyers . We all know what theyre like .  R%%%%
