When I used to fly combat, a LONG time ago, we used to replace the open front bearing on the Super Tigre engines with a shield one side bearing. We figured we needed all the protection from dirt as we could get. Going thru my G21 .46's,
I would like to do the same. The shield one side bearing is hard to find, so I usually remove one shield from a shield 2 side bearing. Since the shields don't seal, There may be no reason to remove the shield at all. Does anyone have any experience using shield 2 side bearings?

Hi Phil,
I always remove the inner shield since Boca suggests that on the bearings I get. Never tried it without removing it.
-
I usually do that, but the last batch I got used snap rings to retain the shields. It was a real problem to remove them.

I haven't run into the snap ring retainers yet. What engine are they for?
Thanks!

Hello
It is best on the ST 46 to use a 607 2-RS sealed bearing NOT shielded bearings,
Just remove the inner rubber seal from the bearing with a T_pin

Doesn't that prevent oil flow thru the bearing?
