Fox Eagle 74
« on: July 05, 2008, 06:00:00 PM »
Hi guys,

Has anyone played with the fox eagle 74? Seems like its a heavy motor and maybe not good for stunt? Its big, not sure what type of plane you could use with this baby. I'm not even sure how much power she will produce. Fox recommends using a 14/6 prop, I use that prop on my sixty size motors. Would appreciate any information. (I gave away a os 60 fp because she has to big and heavy, have a nice day, Gary

  Thanks for the intro Scott but can't help Gary with the 74. My RM 1000 (1000 sq. in. area) uses it's big brother, the 78 and is yet to have enough time on it to evaluate. The 78 comes in at 19 ozs. and is a power house and a half.  so far the only info I can give yiou is that it is more than adaquate for my purposes. Plenty of power to go over the top and it has a somewhat 4-2-4 break. All this still needs to be worked out, different props etc. I run 15% nitro 22% castor. The prop I am using now is a 14-5. As far as fuel consumption try 8.5 ozs/7 min flight. That is all I can tell you right now.

Hi Bill,

Thank you for your input, my son is going to build the sweeper for the engine. Great looking motor, just to much weight and large motor. It doesn't seem to be ported for stunt but I guess we'll find out. I use a eight ounce tank for my enya 60 which runs for nine minutes and forty seconds. My saito 62 uses four ounces for seven minutes and thirty six seconds. I'm surprised that you don't need more than eight and a half ounces for seven minutes, not bad. Thank you, Gary

 Gary;

  Here is what we did on the bench. Run the motor in a fast 4 cycle. Run it for a few minutes then pinch the fuel line, it should go to a 2 cycle. Let the line go and see how long it takes to go back to a 4 cycle. This will give you an indication of what will happen in the corners. It was instantanious for us. All is well in "G-Man" land.

  That Sweeper is a handful according to Bob Zambelli. Should be fun though. Good luck it is a bib undertaking.

 EDIT --- If you do not have one the venturi and NVA are available from Fox, it is the same one we use on the 78. Just unbolt the carb and replace it with the venturi.

Thank you Bill, the engine is set up for control line. I don't know if its a ringed or ABC, haven't checked it out. The motor seems to have a lot of good features. I just don't want to be the one at the end of the lines. I guess you can set the plane up so it doesn't pull hard but most lean out at the end of run. I believe that big dog will let you know its there. I know my enya 60 can get mean when she leans out. Have a great day, Gary
