Post by: David Ruff on April 26, 2015, 04:46:45 PM
are there any other engines with mounting holes that match the Fox 35 Stunt pattern?

        Hi Dave:

Of course the Fox .19 and .25 three bolt backplate will fit. I checked my 1958 Combat Special and the bolt holes would fit.  I had to remove a bit of wood from the motor mount to make room for the four screw backplate to get it to fit.  I have often used the Fox .25 engine in lieu of the .35 Stunt for power.  I think that it runs much better and has a bit more power that the .35. It is also a bit lighter!

See you at the club meeting next Sunday.

                                                                                                   Frank McCune

OS 20FP, 25FP, 25LA almost fit perfectly.  It is like round-off error between metric and inch, so oval the holes in the bearer slightly and the bolts go through.

I believe the Brodak 40 is a drop in replacement.

The Brodak is a drop in replacement for the  OS 35 S and  30S, are those the same as a FOX 35  ??

Randy, the Brodak 40 is not a straight drop-in replacement for a Fox 35. The holes are different and the engine is longer. When I replaced the Fox 35 in my ARF Oriental, the front holes for the B40 were between the holes for the Fox. I had placed the prop where shown on the Pat Johnston drawing so there was space behind the Fox. The B40 is about 1/16" clear of the firewall.

In the same vein, the OS 25 engines are longer by about 5/16", maybe 3/8".

If you are looking for a straight drop-in replacement on an existing model, I understand that there is/was a Double Star 40 that fits but I don't know about availability.

I never said  it was, if you read what i wrote I said it was a replacement for a OS 35S or 30S, or at least that was what I was told by the person who had it made.
the only engine I know of that is a direct same size replacement  is as you mentioned  a DS 40
