Title: Fox .35 Plasma P/L ??
Post by: Bill Little on February 19, 2015, 10:40:30 AM
I am assembling a Fox 40th Anniv. with a High Zoot crank and the Plasma P/L.  Just what is the Plasma P/L?  How does it differ from a chromed P/L?  Is the liner brass or?? Steel piston??

How should I break it in and with what fuel?

Thanks!
Bill

Hi Bill

It is aluminum and basically it is a anodized sleeve

Thanks, Randy, I appreciate it!  25% 1/2 and 1/2 oil?

What would you expect for power versus a stock Fox?

Thanks, again!

I was given the impression that the HZ crank is balanced for the normal Fox 35 piston, and wouldn't work as well combined with the ABC or other fancy piston/liner sets.  Not that I've tried it, but that's what I was told by a trusted source.

Hi Andrew
The trusted source is wrong, yes IT still  works better than the stock crank on either piston. The crank has a lighter piston side and a heavier counterweight side, but with a slightly lighter piston it works even better. I have ran them with many different crankshaft setups, the  HZ is the best all around. It is better to have a slightly lighter piston  working than a slightly heavier one, especially since it is a little hard to get enough weight on the counterbalance.

Fair enough.  No question the HZ is a better crank in every weigh... So the reason it's not an issue is because the HZ crank still isn't ideal to balance the stock steel piston?  How much difference is there in the weight of the stock steel piston vs the Fox ABC, vs the plasma?  Is there enough difference across the range to necessitate a change in the balance of the crank?

Hi Andrew
The HZ is slightly light on the counterweight for steel and slightly heavy for an Aluminum piston. BUT it has a lot more counterweight than the stock FOX crank, and much less weight on the piston side of the crank ,l so it is a huge difference. It works very well and does not warrant another crank.

Hi Randy,

What fuel should I use with this set up? HZ crank and Plasma P/L?

Thanks!
