Title: Fox 35 pistons and liners
Post by: Craig Beswick on May 14, 2020, 01:04:45 AM
Hi guys, a fellow modeler has 2 Fox 35s he wants to put new pistons and liners in.

Are all Fox 35s the same? Are there different pistons and liners, or will one fit all?

Many thanks in advance.
Craig

This will probably get some replys but, the short answer is that the great majority of them are the same. If you can find new parts. Fox did make some options such as ABC, 'Ceramic', Super Stunt, etc. There also have been aftermarket sets over the years. Recently, Brian Gardner has produced a nice ABC set. Maybe he has some left!  TS

Generally, they are all the same and fit  any crankcase. The unit-to-unit variation is non-trivial so no guarantees on any particular combination. The liner is supposed to fit tightly into the case, so when the case expands more than the liner, it is still touching so the heat gets transferred out. It's not quite a shrink-fit, but it's not just going to slip in there with light pressure at room temperature.

Of course, the pistons and liners are supposed to be matched pairs and go together. How well that works out in practice, well, that's part of the charm. If they all ran correctly, and the same, that would take all the adventure out of it.
