Cave Cobra
« on: February 02, 2016, 08:51:36 PM »
I have the aircraft version of the one pictured.
Never mounted and as far as I can tell, never run.
It's stored with some other engines at my brother's place in New Jersey but I will have it back soon.
Anyone ever run one of these?
Kind of exotic looking.

Wow, even a locking needle valve. That engine's got style. what can you tell us about it... not that I can't use Google, but I'm beginning to accept that it numbs the brain. The information highway Lol. Hmm, okay enough coffee for me.

Hello Bob,
It looks like the holy grail of speed flying. I am dipping my toes in vintage speed and would give most anything for one! Seriously I don't think I can even afford a repro!
I do hope you get to fly it. Keep us all informed!

Andrew.

Andrew is right. It is a rare piece. Beautiful enough to be jewelry or eye candy. Don't run it. It's worth serious cash.

Years ago Clarence Lee did a write up in RCM on the Cave Cobra. He wrote up many articles on old ignition engines at one time. It is a pretty exotic piece and one in the condition you have would be worth a pretty penny to some collectors. Having said that it would be fun to break in and fly. Some things cannot be measured in money. I have broken in two old sparkers that were never run and fly them alot.

So, check this out:

http://precisionserv.com/model-aero/

Has anyone built one of these kits?  How'd it work out?  Randy: would you start with one of these?

Imagine this in the nose of an OTS plane!

Thanks for the comebacks, Guys. I've learned quite a bit.   y1  y1

I really don't plan on selling it because things like this usually go into private collections and are never seen by the interested/general public.  :-[  :-[

At this point, I'm not sure what I'll do with it but I plan to run it and then it will probably wind up in the Brodak museum as I really have no use for it.
Same for my Doolings and Yellow Jacket.
