..Your Thoughts...
« on: December 06, 2007, 09:07:51 AM »
  Mornin' Guy's
I am lookin at the new  Fox 35 ceramic set up and have a suggestion from Joe Gilbert,  thanks Joe, about how much castor to run in it to break it in.
Joe suggested 25% castor with about 1-2% syn for keepin it clean.
I am thinkin 20% castor with 5% syn. I sure don't want to "burn" anything down from a lack of coolin.  What say ye and why ???

Gil,  It looks as if nobody wants to comment.   I think your fuel combo looks pretty good.  As new as these "Ceramic"  piston/liner sets are,  we will be just feeling our way in the dark for a while.  Joe gilbert has had a considerable amount of time on his "Proto-type" one now for a couple of years.
Mine that I got fron overseas (New Zealand I think)  has run really well on 25% castor for three years now and shows no sign of wear.

Hi Gil

The 20% 5%  BLEND would seem to work well with this  setup, however as I have still not gotten any of the new ceramic  piston\sleeves  setups from FOX, I will wait to say this for sure.  I have ordered these a couple of times before but  still waiting on the parts....
I have however a good bit of experience  with several of these type setups on FOX , ST and other engines.

Regards
Randy

I have a Fox with one of the Ausi ceramic P&L's and have always just ran PowerMaster 10-22 50/50. Not saying this is a recommendation just what I have been doing. My rational is the ceramic P&L is bullet proof which leaves the con rod and front bushing to worry about. I haven't worked my Fox hard as the two airplanes it's been on were both under 30 ounces and running smallish props, probably why I have been able to get by with 11% castor.

:! #^  My thinkin about the castor oil is I don't want to have the "carbon" build up, so the synthetic should help take care of that.
Thanks for all the comments and suggestions.
