I'm looking for a side to rear header that will fit a Magnum 53. Any sources?

Why?? ;D H^^ D>K

DUH! cause he wants the exhaust to come out the back!
sheesh, even I can figure that out,, roflmao
LL~ LL~ LL~ LL~

Yea, that's pretty much it. I want the exhaust to come out the rear and have enough room in the cowl to enclose it.
Go figure.

I would look at Scott Dinger to custom make you one that would fit that bill. The standard side to rear ones have to come out of the cowl and go back in as you know. Unless your cowl is going to be 4" wide.
I had a brief moment where I thought you would possibly be considerng the insane idea of try to use a pipe on that 53! LL~

Bill,
Nope. I was planning to install a cone ala header mufflers. The cowl for the proposed plane in more than 6" around at th nose (gotta love them radials). I also thought about it for a semi-scale plane I'm planning that will use the Al Rabe method of canting the engine to have the side to rear header stay enclosed.

Gee...I was thinking about a Magnum XL .53 or XLS .46/.52 in a Saturn/Legacy/Impact/SV-11 kinda model, side to rear manifold and a Randy Aero Quiet pipe. Randy Aero says he doesn't have a side to rear header for the bigger Magnums, unfortunately. I hadn't thought about Scott Dinger, but that's a right fine idea! H^^ Steve

Now that DOES make sense! ;D

Well, ok. Why not? If it works on the .36, it should work on the bigger Mags. y1 Steve

From my understanding, (I do not have, or seen the larger MAgnums) I am told the timing is much different from the XLSIIA36. If you have the time, the go for it. I know of no one who has done it, so getting a baseline for the pipe set up might be troublesome. Ans I really don't see (from what I've heard) what benefit a pipe would be for the big Magnum engines.

I imagine it would be like putting a pipe on an ST60. I know Windy tried that. Not sure of the outcome.
I was thinking more of making a muffler header.

Windy tried it on the ST 60 (Bill Simons, too) as well as the ST G51. Gave up on them both. Those engines just did not seem to suit pipe duty for whatever reason. A WAG would be their timing and rpm ranges.

HI Randy
The 53 will work just fine on a pipe or a header or rear tube muffler, as will the Magnum 52 . The ST 60 beat itself to death and killed several rods running on a pipe, the ring didn't seem to last as long either.

So Randy, do you have one or can one be made by Jayson Headers?

hi Randy
Jayson is out of business they are closing, I could have had them made but not any longer, I may have one at the shop that could be converted to fit the 53, If your interested in that I will check to see what I have left

Hi Randy (Smith that is!),
Since you wrote that the Magnum 53 would do just fine on a pipe, just how well would it compare to a PA 51 on a pipe??
Thanks, and MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Randy,
Yea, if you have it. I'd love one.
Do you have another manufacturer to make headers for you?
