Title: Exactly why DID I buy this?
Post by: Annette Elmore on March 07, 2007, 03:00:20 PM
I bought a Fox 36X from Ebay for not a lot of money.

I caught the bit about it being fitted with a Webra r/c carb - but not the bit about it being epoxied in.

The Webra carb is missing it's needle.

What can I do to make this engine useable?

Find a needle for the Webra carb - anyone any idea where I can get one?

Try to get the carb off?

I have a Rocket 35 with poor compression - will the 36x piston/liner fit?

If all else fails I may put the engine in my Unimat and mill the carb off.

The engine has excellent compression and good bearings otherwise.

If the intake hasn't been modified the epoxy can be removed with heat. Get it hot enough, (small torch) and it will come apart.

Hello  Tony
Bob is  correct, depending on teh epoxy most heat guns  will make it come loose.
try that

The liner and piston from the 36X may fit in the Rocket case, but I don't know if the rod will match the crankpin dia / throw. Go to http://www.the.elmores.btinternet.co.uk/engine_tests/_cat001.html and compare the specs from the reviews and that should give you the answer. There were several .36x vesions, the early ones were based on the Rocket and later ones were a bit different.

Marvin Denny aka Big Iron may know a bit more about swapability between the 2, but you will need to determine which version of .36X you have.
