Title: Evolution 60.
Post by: Andrew Saunders on January 28, 2014, 07:35:30 PM
I have recently purchased an Evolution .60 From Byron barker and i  have looked a the instruction manual and it doesnt give any details on what prop to use for break in nor does it give instructions in breaking in the engine. What prop and fuel would be best for breaking this engine in?  What three bladed props would work on it? How much fuel should be used before the engine is broken in? Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Andrew, the manual suggests CoolPower 10%, seems to work well, surprisingly enough!  We used a 12/5 wood prop for a VERY short break-in period; 5 or 6 short runs, then 2 or 3 full tanks.  If you need the full owners manual, you can download it off the Horizon website.  Nice stunt engine; Jim Lee told us about his positive experiences with it.  We like the smaller venturi, and the tongue muffler with added holes.

I have  a 12 x 6 Brodak Y&O prop on 10% 22% Powermaster and launch at 7800 at 200' to 1000' msl. A good engine.

Has it been reworked by Byron? You can tell because the head will be hemi'd and the top cooling fins will be squared off. If so it will hold a more solid 4 stroke than the stocker's which have more of a  4/2 run. Also, this engine has been discussed here before, additional info via search function. Most use the smallest venturi which is included, and as has been mentioned, regular R/C fuel, they don't like castor oil.  8)

Andrew, no pics, we just added one additional row of holes to match the others. Seems to work fine.

Andrew.  I have 2 Evo 60's and very happy with them.  Following this thread is one that revolved around a thread I started about the Evo.

Good luck,
Mike
