Title: Enya S S 30 won't run !!!
Post by: Bootlegger on November 04, 2017, 06:34:01 PM: I did everything that I know and I can't get this Enya ss 30 to run!! Tried different fuels, went thru 3 glow plugs, changed N V A, and used the 'lectric finger and still no dice!!

Any body got any advice/suggestions, I sure can use the help!!!! Thanks a lot

Post by: Dan McEntee on November 04, 2017, 06:53:24 PM: Define "run". Does it burn out a prime? Is it burping at all? Does it fire if you prime through the exhaust? Did you check your battery? Really hard to diagnose on the internet with only a few lines of information. Lime Mr. Holford points out, those little nicad igniter batteries can crap out at any time, and don't carry enough current to burn out a flooded plug. I gave up on those many, many moon's ago. Make sure the basics are all there and try again.

I had an LA 46 that would run out the prime and then I noticed it was not drawing fuel when I choked it. Seems the factory didn't drill the hole on the inlet valve. Then I had to file the needle valve body so I could screw it in enough to lean it out.

Post by: Balsa Butcher on November 04, 2017, 09:55:55 PM: I have a few late model Enyas. Most recently broke in an SS-25. If you are flipping it like a Fox 35 it will be difficult to start at first. Try a bump start where you slap the ascending blade up against the compression where it will bounce back with more force than a simple finger flip. Takes a little practice but works. Note: this is not the same as flipping it backwards as you would with a flooded engine. If you need more explanation someone else will have to do it because I have a severe head cold and am going to bed. :(

Post by: Bootlegger on November 05, 2017, 04:24:49 AM: It will start and run for up to 30-40 seconds, and when I remove the glow driver it stops! I have used the e starter and gotten it running, but again remove the driver and it stops.
I changed the glow plug three times to no avail. A couple of friends were with me and we all think that it might be "over compressed", however I don't any extra head shims.

Sure do thank everyone for the advice...

Post by: Brad LaPointe on November 05, 2017, 07:16:59 AM: If it starts , runs out the prime or quits when the power is removed from the plug you have two problems . First the engine is not broke in , second you need a hotter plug . Too much oil can make the problem worse also .

Don’t give up these are great engines.

Post by: Balsa Butcher on November 05, 2017, 10:37:46 AM: I'm guessing that your 30SS is the earlier iron piston version. I have an iron piston 45SS that acted that way. It will (should) get better and for those who may have been concerned I'm feeling much better today. FWIW: The ABC Enyas such as most 61 CSX's and later model 25 and 30SS are much easier to break in that the old-school iron piston ones. The ringed engines such as some 61 CSX's, 50SS and 46 6001 version also break in easier, just like any other ringed engine. Another thought...keep the glo-driver on for awhile to get some run time on it. It will speed up the process. Trying a different brand plug may help. If you can find one, try an Enya #3 plug, they seem to run well with them. 8)

Yes what fuel are you using? what is the amount of oil and castor

You should try a Merlin 2004, or Enya 3, or Glow Devil #300 plug to start, 20 percent oil fuel with 1/2 castor , leave the battery on untill you set the needle, get it running right at a 4/2 , then turn out just into a fast 4 cycle, pull the battery off, it should still run, on an ENYA iron motor you will need to run 1/2 to a full gallon of fuel, after breaking try 22% oil 1/2 castor

Post by: Phil Spillman on November 05, 2017, 07:02:35 PM: Have you checked to see that there is a tight seal between the front end and the block? Might not have enough base compression! Had a similar problem a few months ago with a balky engine and the back plate screws had backed out! If there is no gasket try to make your own out of Bond paper...bill stock is a reasonable substitute! Just thinking about your problem!
