I saw a picture of the Enya 61 Rear exhaust engine. Is this engine ring only or is there an ABN/ABC version?

When they were first introduced, I am certain that there was an ABC version.On asking further, they were out of stock and there was no intention of making anymore! On querying this, I was told that Enya was unable to source the correct grade of high silicon alloy anymore. If this is correct, it is a real shame, ABC setup is infinitely better than ringed.

The ABC version was a side exhaust only and I am one of the lucky few who got one. I have heard the rest of the story also, but with Enya, you never know.  8)

Got that one wrong, my memory is getting real bad these days! With Enya you never know, might even get a 61 RE with ABC.

There was never a 61 RE  abc version, Maybe later, if we are lucky but I would not hold my breathe

Does that mean that they can't get the aluminum (they want) in Japan, or can't get it anyplace? Would the piston's be barstock or cast? I just can't imagine that the same materials that Henry used wouldn't work fine!!! That should be possible to arrange? The ex-Soviet states seem to have the very best high silicon aluminum (and chrome), and they should be very willing to sell some. Being sure it is what they say it is might be an issue, but any metallurgical lab could provide independent proof.

I'd be seriously tempted by the Enya .61 if AAC or ABC!   y1 Steve

If it is an Enya, the quality of materials whether ringed or an ABC will be above reproach.

Hi Andrew,

I agree an ABC is better (and probably an AAC even better!), but why "infinitely better"?  I'm no metalurgist, so you got my curiosity going. ;D

I've got no real preference either way between ringed or ABC other than ABC runs in much faster. My old model 6001 Enya 45 (with twin rings) did a couple of hundred hours before I fitted new rings and that was only because it was beginning to need more than one flick to start. Once running it was as good as new. I've now ordered an Enya 61 RE from Randy.

Frank Bowman  already has the ring for the Enya 61CXLR and 61CXR in case any one gets an engine with a faulty  ring.

One question keeps popping in my mind is why all competition Helli engines are ring ones?

I read that it has to do with throttle/idle. I could see that if you chopped the throttle to idle on a good ABC (with lots of pinch), that it might just stop (sieze) as the piston/cyl. cools quickly. Not that it would be a big deal, 'cause Helis glide so incredibly well.  VD~ Steve

With helis I suspect it's got more to do with the dirt tolerance of rings. Hovering near the ground throws up lots of dust, dirt, grass and small mice and this recirculates above the rotor and back through it again.
