Can someone tell me the difference between the 6001 .45 and the 6002 .45 II? The front case looks a little different as in heavier duty but the crankcases look the same. Thanks.

I forgot to say that they are Enya engines. HB~>

I have a handful of the 6001's but have stayed away from the 6002. As I recall in an effort to extract a little more power from the basic design the 6002 has a larger internal crankshaft bore and intake opening for more air/fuel passage. Timing and compression may also have been changed. These changes I've read makes the 6002 less user friendly as a stunt engine and the crank itself weaker which could lead to failure. I recall someone using aluminum tubing to sleeve the crank bore back down in the range of the 6001 to correct the bad traits.

Thanks Dave, looks like the 6002 will be staying on the shelf. I have two 6001's, one with the venturi built into the front housing and the other one with a standard bolt through setup. You can see the difference in the front housing on both engines. Ed.

Disregarding the early Baldy, which was also a model 6001, the later 6001 BB had 2 (minor) varieties. Originally they used two rings but in about '71 they changed to a single ring which copied the just released Enya 60-IIIB. I used an early twin ringed 45 but after an estimated 200 hours of use it was no longer giving one flick starts although once running it was still exactly as normal but I fitted new rings and then back to one flick starts again. At one point the current Australian champ asked me how I got my Enya to run like his ST 46 but I had no answer. All I did was fill with 75/25 all castor, flick and fly :).
Then along came the model 6002 so I figured an upgrade was in order. The proper name is Enya 45-II. I fitted it into my usual model but after quite a few flights I wasn't happy with how it ran so I went back to the 6001. It's difficult to figure out why it was disappointing in flight because crankshaft timings were identical to the 6001 (37/50) but port timings were a bit higher in the 6002. Weirdly though the crankshafts are different because the 6001 has a stroke of 19.2mm while the 6002 is exactly 19mm so with the exact same bore (22.3mm) they have different capacities (7.5cc to 7.42cc).

The internal bore of the crankshafts are different. The 6002 is larger and is capable of passing a larger fuel/ air charge per revolution. One can assume this was in the hopes of producing a little more power. I think in reality it just made the engine less consistent and not as friendly. I’ve heard some resorted to inserting a piece of aluminum tubing into the bore to close it back down to something close to the 6001 specs. I have quite a few 6001s but have passed on the 6002. It would be interesting to know if the pistons and sleeves are the same or at least interchangeable.

It's been a few years....
But the article I had read stated the Enya 6001 series had the same timing as the ST 46 G21 series.
Wishing you & yours a Happy Thanksgiving &"Tight Lines!" H^^

Hey Wes!
It was good to see you at the Nats!
Dave, the article referenced above shows at least the heads are compatible.. What I have done with my 6001s is put the 6002 head on it, as per this article. I have one on a profile, I have yet to try it out. Got frustrated with the LA that I had on it, and thought I would give the Enya a try and see if it's as good as the article says it is. Although I find the prop pitch and rpms this guy is using a bit different from what I am used to.

Yeah this seems different- sometimes different works. My son in law Kevin actually has our most recent experiences running the 6001s quite a bit and has found the Xoar 11-5 works about right for his Sukhoi profile airplane which is pretty light. Might need to increase pitch on heavier airplanes but I’d be hesitant to increase diameter. That just makes the engine run hotter. Most all our Enyas of various size don’t care for too much nitro. 5/25 all castor seems to keep things controlled. I’m even mixing 2 1/2% and liking that on Enya and Merco engines . When I go more nitro I can get wild power bursts and critical needle settings. The first inclination would be to use a smaller venturi or head shims. The correction actually becomes cutting the nitro way back. These engines are made and used in places where nitro isn’t allowed or too expensive so are built to run without it. You may need to find good hot plugs. Even without nitro they produce good power. The main struggle I think people have with Enyas is the assume it is broken in when in fact it isn’t. Two or three hours - half of which is in the airplane in the air is about the minimum to get most of them consistent and powerful. BTW it seems to me Kevin is launching at around 9200 with the 11-5. The sweet prop for the Tigre .46 in my mind is a RevUp 11 1/2- 6EW. Strangely I don’t recall ever trying that on the 6001. Maybe I will at some point. Right now I don’t even have an airplane set up to fly with either engine. I have one of my original Music kits here that I might build for N30………

Thanks, Dave, this is very helpful information..
In the SuperCool Props article (https://www.supercoolprops.com/articles/f2benya.php) the writer is talking about 11.5x8 props and 6700-7000 rpm.. This is quite puzzling to me as I would have gone the 11.5x5 and 8600-9200 RPM range..
He mentions low nitro or no nitro fuel as well.
Just wishing it were April or May so I could go out and fly now that I'm learning these things..
24 deg F feels like 13 deg F in Chicagoland.. Plus it gets dark early.. 4:38 and nearly night outside..
Again, Thanks!

got a lapped piston 6001 45 . Must be a early finned one . From a Orange Spacehound in N. Z. .
Think it was old in the early 70s , if I saw it then . Clear / rectangular Ex. port outlet . No baffle screw lump .
Anyone know anything of these .

It looks like this discussion was covered here on Stunthanger about a year ago:

I should use the search function more often.. Lot's of good stuff here on this site..

When it comes to most of this stuff, nothing has really changed much, and since this site had been around , like almost 20 years??? There is very little to nothing that hasn't been covered multiple times. I find that most search functions are very particular in how you word your search and if you don't get the results you want at first, reword you search and try again. Volumes and volumes of information here, and when Stuka Stunt was still around, there wasn't ANYTHING that you couldn't find an answer for. Stuka was around for quite a while before Stunthanger, and so much has been lost from sources that haven't been with us for a long time. But topics tend to get repeated and repeated often, so I think a very high percentage of anything you might want to know is here somewhere!

I used to sleeve the crank tunnel down with an aluminium insert.
I also reduced the bypass port in the case in a similar way to the Fox 35.
No timing changes.
It worked a treat.

Was this for the 6002?? My nexttrip up into the attic I need to see what I have in my stash up there. I was gifted a nice running Enya .45 but not sure which model it is. I think I have some other R/C versions also. I just never had the notion to try them.

Yes Dan, I did these mods to the 6002.
