MAgnum 36 v. TT 36pro
« on: September 07, 2007, 09:15:00 AM »
Hi All:

Is the Magnum 36 XLS II ( the one that PTG has documented on his DIVA with Pipe) a part to part clone of the TT 36 pro?

I am considering a project for that powertrain and realized I already have a couple of the TT36's.  If it is the same metalurgy, timing, etc, then I'll try one first.

Thanks

Curt

Hi Curt,

I have not seen in our engines where any of the "new" (XLII S "square head") Magnum parts would interchange with the TT 36 Pro.  They seem very differentr in run characteristics, also.  So much so that I will not use the TT 36 in "stock" condition.  Not so with the Magnum, it is fantastic "out of the box".  But it doesn't beat an Aero Tiger 36! LOL!!

Curt,
Contact Byron Barker.  His mod for the TT36 makes it pretty stunt friendly and the mod is cheaper than one of the expensive Magnums.  The stock engine can be used, but it is a constant fast 2 cycle so needs a low pitch prop like the APC 10.5X4.5.  The stock Magnum has a better stunt run than the stock TT36, but the TT is a better quality engine.

Thanks Steve:

I know of Byron's re-works.  I have several TT36 in various re-work conditions.

I am specifically interested in running a piped setup like PTG's DIVA.

I need it to fly a 60+- oz plane of moderate foil thickness.

Curt,
I re-read your question and now recognize your desire to run a pipe.  I don't know anyone who has tried the TT36 on a pipe but Randy Smith might.  Just on the surface, this is a powerful, relative high speed engine and might be a candidate for a pipe much like the OS 40 FSR was.  This sounds like a neat experiment.

Hi Steve  Hi Curt

Yes Steve  you are  right , the  Thunder Tiger is the one I would use over the magnum  for an airplane  of that size and  weight. It is a more powerful engine and a better  quality one.
Neither  engine is  used  "box stock"   they both are  RC  VERSIONS  ONLY  and  do not come  as  CL versions

Regards

Randy
