Yeah, like Dave said the wrong needle, or the needle has slipped on the assembly. In the instructions they tell you not to over tighten the needle when closing it, and this is one reason why! It can also be a source of an air leak, and might not have been assemble correctly at the factory. Take the spring off and examine the hub and see what it looks like. If there is a stub sticking out on the spring side, see if you can lightly tap on it to push it through the hub. If so, re-test it like you did. If no soap, a new one is in order.
