sparks in the exhaust

Not having any 29% castor fuel, I test ran an old Fox .35 stunt on 10/22 (50/50 oil) Powermaster. The sun was setting as I tinkered, finally starting after dark. It was sparking in the exhaust. This engine has been used hard, it's a former "Fox Stunt Combat" engine. What do you figure the sparks are?, metal or carbon?

Probably the Klotz cleaning out some carbon buildup. Hope so, anyway. I'd suggest changing to straight castor, since that's what it's apparently been run on previously. Most importantly, stop running the engine in the dark, where you can see the darned sparks coming out of the exhaust. Too scary!

We once saw sparks coming out of Howard's Impact's tuned pipe. Turned out to be tuned pipe excrement after a recent bafflectomy. It looked neat, tho.  %^ Steve

The only time I've had this is many yers ago, giving a dykes ring K&B40 F.I. motor its first run. Only fuel I had was about 20% nitro? Wretched thing just wouldn't needle, ran very hard. When sparks started coming out the exhaust I packed up for the day. On getting home I found it was fitted with a high comp. F.A.I fuel head. On the proper fuel it subsequently ran o.k. but who knows if it would have been better without my error?  ''

Howard had SPARKS..coming outta  da  pipe??? %^@   I thought he gave up abusing motors?

This engine I said was used hard, it got Missile Mist at one time. It had the clipped "combat needle".

         We clip our needles so there not sticking up and break off in a flip over or inverted landing. I wish I knew about that 20 years ago. I broke so many needles its mind boggling. I love the way it breaks off, flush with the spray bar. Ken

Apparently it was the epoxy used to repair the tuna pipe that got abused (i.e., wasn't hardened sufficiently).
It really had us worried. But it looked awesome!  8) The engine was ok, for being hyphenated, don'cha know.  :X - :X Steve
