Can you guys tell me your experiences W/the Double Star engine? I am interested in one after the success I've had W/the .54 . I know they are out of production but they might be coming back. Maybe you have witnessed otherguys using them. John

Which one? The side exhaust DS 60 lite or the rear exhaust DS 61?

I have extensive experience with the side exhaust but not the rear exhaust. Not too many of the 61REs were made and those that I saw in service gave their owners the devil of a time with the run. Tom's original 61RE in his Avanti used 7 to 8 inches of pitch and seemed to work ok, as did Andy Patterson's Avanti setup. The rest that I saw were not very good. The chief issue was that the engine would not burn more than 4 to 4.5 oz fuel and made about the same power as a Fox 35.

Norm Liversidge uses his with great success. I have not seen that motor give him a bad run ONCE! Set it up as per Tom Dixon and you'll never have a problem

Ever considered a Ro-Jett? 51's, 61's, and 67's are RE and work great on pipe or RE muffler. Currently in production and supported. Joe Gilbert won the recent Albuquerque contest with a .67 on a pipe...high DA, gusty winds, lots of power, impressive. PA's too, if you can find someone willing to sell - I know I won't sell the one I have. ;D

Another alternative that is currently available is the Stalker 61 RE. 8)

I could be somewhat interested in the ROjett .67 or big block .But I am never sure of the status & wheather or how they are going to be I read so many different things here & there about them.

I can answer a few of your questions: The .67 is currently in production and is the most popular Ro-Jett C/L engine. Order directly from Dub Jett, lead time is usually only a few weeks and he is very easy to work with. Dub also offers excellent support after sale. I don't wish to compare them to PA's which are also excellent engines. I like the .67 over the .76 as it has the same mounting holes as the RO-Jett 60 and 65...and PA's and VF 40/46's. 8)

I ran the DS RE in my modified Time machine for a while, yes a 7 1/4 pitch prop,sounded like a tractor LOL, but it later got to where it wasnt running consistantly no matter what I tried, pulled it and put in a Stalker 55RE, ran like a top.

I have a Double Star .54 that started an odd way of running a while back, For no reason it would run richer as the flight progressed. I tried all my tricks & it didn't help. One fine day it ran properly & it has ever since. I have no idea.
